Day 47: Concrete, Power, and Metal Buildings: The Construction Sprint Begins

August 11, 20252 min read

Last week was absolutely eventful—the kind of eventful that makes you simultaneously excited and terrified as you watch your vision literally take shape in concrete and steel.

Here's what went down:

170 Yards of Concrete Poured!

That's on top of the 140 yards we poured the week before. For context, that's enough concrete to... well, let's just say it's a LOT of concrete. The footings are pretty much done, and now the team is forming the foundation walls, which we're planning to start pouring this week.

There's something deeply satisfying about watching concrete trucks roll up one after another. It feels like real progress you can actually see and walk on.

Power Play: Getting Ready for Eversource

We dug the trench for electrical to bring power from the pole to the transformer site. This week we're preparing to set the transformer pad and get it all inspected. This is absolutely critical—these are prerequisite steps to get on a waitlist with Eversource for a transformer.

Yes, you read that right. After jumping through all those hoops I mentioned in my earlier posts, we still need to get on a WAITLIST for the actual transformer. The joys of working with utility companies...

Stormwater Management (AKA Digging More Holes)

We're digging temporary basin(s) this week as part of our temporary stormwater management plan. Not the most glamorous part of construction, but absolutely essential for keeping the town and environmental folks happy.

Retaining Wall Delivery

One of two retaining walls has arrived and will be set this week at the north side of the site where our 3 outdoor pickleball courts will be. It's amazing how these massive concrete pieces just show up on a truck and suddenly your courts start looking like... actual courts.

The Big Event: Metal Building Arrival

The team is working as fast as they can to prepare the site to accept the metal building, which is scheduled to arrive this week on August 14th. This is the big kahuna—the moment when my club starts looking less like a construction site and more like an actual sports facility.

I have to admit, I'm both excited and nervous. So many things need to align perfectly for this delivery to go smoothly.

Fingers Crossed

As always in construction, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we won't hit any major surprises and will be able to complete all our plans. At this point, I've learned to expect the unexpected, but also to celebrate every milestone along the way.

The pace is picking up, the stakes are getting higher, and frankly, it's exhilarating. After all those months of permits, approvals, and paperwork, seeing actual physical progress happen at this speed feels like a small miracle.

More updates coming as we navigate metal building installation and whatever surprises the construction gods decide to throw our way...
