Day #0: Breaking Ground Tomorrow: The Final Approval (And a Lesson in Patience)
🚧 Breaking Ground Tomorrow, June 25th 2025, AT 7AM 🚧
Remember when I said we were "ready to start construction"? Well, turns out the universe had other plans.
We had all our heavy machinery on-site, crews ready to dig, and I was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. I could practically taste victory. Then the Conservation Commission inspector showed up with a checklist longer than my arm.
When "Ready" Meets Reality
Picture this: You've spent months getting permits, coordinating contractors, and planning every detail. Your equipment is humming on-site, your crew is suited up, and you're mentally drafting your triumphant "WE DID IT!" posts. That's exactly where I was when our Conservation Commission inspector arrived for what I thought would be a routine final check.
They had several very reasonable recommendations about sediment control and protecting the nearby wetlands. As someone who genuinely cares about environmental stewardship, I was actually grateful for their thoroughness. When they outlined what needed to be addressed, we immediately responded: "Absolutely, we'll fix everything within 24 hours!"
That confidence lasted exactly until we learned about their training schedule.
Plot Twist: The Training Week
Here's where the universe's sense of humor really kicked in. The entire Conservation Commission department was heading into a week-long training program starting the very next day.
Cue the waiting game. ⏰
We fixed everything they asked for and then... waited. And waited a bit more. You know how patience is supposed to be a virtue? I've been doing my best to cultivate it with meditation sessions, but let me tell you—it's hard. Very hard. Especially when you're this close to seeing months of planning turn into reality.
The 15-Minute Victory
Fast forward to today. After what felt like the world's longest week, our inspector returned for what turned out to be the most efficient site visit in history. Fifteen minutes. That's all it took to verify that we'd addressed every concern on their checklist.
The photo says it all—our team with Anna and Judy from the Conservation Commission, alongside Anthony (our General Contractor), Rich (Site), and Mark (Wetlands Engineer). These are the faces of people who just got the green light to make something amazing happen. Frank (the owner of the Site company) and Andrew (Construction Manager) were a bit too shy for some reason to join us.
Tomorrow's the Real Day
We were going to start today, but with this 100-degree heat wave, even I'm not crazy enough to make the crew work in conditions that feel like a furnace. Tomorrow at 7 AM, when it's a few degrees cooler, we'll finally break ground.
After months of permits, approvals, and bureaucratic gymnastics that would make an Olympic athlete dizzy, we finally have every single blessing we need to put shovel in the ground.
Speaking of shovels... in all my excitement about finally getting started, I may have forgotten to bring one for the mandatory groundbreaking photo. Classic me. But honestly, maybe tomorrow when dirt actually starts flying and real work begins is more authentic anyway.
What This Means
This isn't just about moving dirt or starting construction. This is about turning a vision into reality, creating something that will serve our community for decades to come. Every permit approval, every inspection, every moment of waiting has been building toward tomorrow morning.
Going forward, I'm hoping my updates will involve actual visible changes to the land instead of paperwork victories. Don't get me wrong—I'm grateful for every step of this regulatory process. It ensures we're building something responsible and sustainable. But I'm ready to see some real progress.
The real adventure starts NOW! 🎾
After all the planning, permitting, and patience-testing delays, we're about to transform an empty lot into a space where people will create memories, build friendships, and maybe even discover a new passion for pickleball.
Stay tuned. Future's updates are going to look very different from the past!
